From 1st January 2008, the Maltese Lira was replaced by the Ewro! I think that the education campaign about Ewro was very good! I don't understand why so many shop owners still find it difficult! I think that these shop owners take it to easy and when in 1st January the Ewro became our monetary, they found themselves in caos & panic! I find the Ewro money quite easy, I try to make it more easy when I adjusted my mobile currency converter to the 0.4293 rate. I think that in a matter of a month the majority of the citizens will adapt themselves completley to the Ewro. Obviously the most people I really understand there confusion about Ewro, are the elderly. Many of them find it too complecated, I think that the best thing one can do in these circumstances is to be paitent (especially the shop owners) with these people. In a matter of image, I found that the paper money looks more like the money in the game monopoly rather then real ones & I think that the coins are too small! As I said before, I think that in a matter of a month the Ewro is going to become a part of our everyday lives, & in that time, I think that the Maltese people can have something more exciting & interesting to talk about, mybe the general election?

I still remain opposed to the Euro - it is a loss of expression of sovereignty, a loss of monetary policy, tough on the consumer (particularly the elderly), tough on prices - not to mention the fact that it's leading us through the backdoor of a federal Europe - a Europe incidentally, managed by an unelected commission with right wing agenda's.

I understand Andre's point because my country's currency was changed from colones to dollars and I also thought the same things (soverignity, monetary policy, etc.) but with the euro I think it is somehow different given that the EU is a block and Malta is part of it. While as in the case of my country we are clearly not a part of the States :)
10x for your comments both Andre & Wen. I dont agree with the Euro as much I dont agree with the European Union. I believe that the EU apart from taking the soverignity of it's members states, is imposing it's agenda on their members. Obviously the EU agenda is a capitalist-frendly! The EU opposes ideologies like Socialism or Communism when it's general policy dosen't accept a goverment of a member state that wants to for example keep some industrial activities in there hands. And that is why I will never agree with the EU! But in our today's reality is that we (Maltese) are members of the EU, and obviously the Euro monetary was an unavitable step.
