our working conditions
Everyone who works full time, knows how much hours we spend in our workplace. The workplace we work in it is the second (if not the first) home for us. The majority of the full time workers, works more than 40hrs per week, and for that, they recieve a miserable ammount of money (wage) for buying the needs for life and pay the rents for living. In the other hand, the boss, does nothing compared with the hard working the workers do, not only he is receiving the ammount of money to by his needs, but he earnt enough money to buy luxurious things & to going out eating in 5 star hotels! Exepctions exist, but the majority of the workers, working/living in this scenario! In our socities, only Socialism can save the workers and make sure that the wealth be distriputed failry and then, the workers themselves take over, in a Communist society, based on work & walfare.

They sent me this joke the other day, hope you like it:
Subject: Work vs prison
Just in case you ever get these two environments mixed up, this should make things a little bit clearer.
IN PRISON..........you spend the majority of your time in a 10X10 cell.
AT WORK...........you spend the majority of your time in an 8X8 cubicle.
IN PRISON.........you get three meals a day.
AT WORK..........you get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it.
IN PRISON..........you get time off for good behavior.
AT WORK...........you get more work for good behavior.
IN PRISON..........the guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you.
AT WORK...........you must often carry a security card and open all the doors for yourself.
IN PRISON..........you can watch TV and play games.
AT WORK...........you could get fired for watching TV and playing games.
IN PRISON.........you get your own toilet.
AT WORK..........you have to share the toilet with some people who peed on the seat.
IN PRISON...........they allow your family and friends to visit.
AT WORK............you aren't even supposed to speak to your family.
IN PRISON.........all expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work required.
AT WORK..........you get to pay all your expenses to go to work, and they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners.
IN PRISON..........you spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out.
AT WORK ..........you spend most of your time wanting to get out and go inside bars.
IN PRISON........ You must deal with sadistic wardens.
AT WORK...........they are called managers.
Now get back to work. You're not getting paid to check emails
Good joke Wen, with profound reflections as well!!!
You can't generalise and say that managers do nothing compared to workers. I know people in all categories and all do their fair share of work. I also know people who work in different positions and can be lazy - but this applies to all workers - regardless of their grade.
Also you are forgetting that entrepreneurs are taking the risk of capital which they might loose if the business is not profitable.
Remove the profit from the picture and you will have a number of firms producing output for the sake of producing output rather than to sell it and make money out of it. In the long run unprofitable industries will lead to unemployment.
Unemployment I believe is much more cruel to the worker. I've been there last summer and I would have given anything for a decent job.
Political ideologies are not really a cure - it is the policies and the solutions we derive out of these principles which create a cure.
All people should have the right to a decent job. Nowadays, one could say that this right has been reduced to the right to look for a job!
When talking about employers and employees, I strongly believe that the interests of the two parties are very different from one another. No matter how much we try to pretend that we are all equal, a capitalist society is a fundamentally split one. A political ideology is essential to guide the way.
I agree with David that every person has the right to have a descent job. A decent job is not sometype of a gift, a decent job is a right, and no one can abbuse from some sort of economic depression to cut the rights of the workers and reduce their wages or social services. I am sure that some people risk their money to have their own buisness, but it dose'nt mean that if they risk and succeed they have the right to exploit the workers! Some workers, especially in construction, risk their lives for their boss, but at the end of the week they recieve a so called 'wage' to buy just the neccesities, and their boss, the one who risks his money, is always finding enough money to buy what he wants, whenever he wants!
Nowadays, one could say that this right has been reduced to the right to look for a job!
Unfortunately we have a government who is happy to create dead end jobs such as call centres and who does not provide the adequate setting for entrepreneurs to invest in high capital jobs which provide loads of training and loads of career prospects on the island. A career opportunity is much better than a job opportunity.
I know for a fact that one particular business will not invest in Malta due to government and EU bureaucracy - not because of unions or wages - but because of bureaucracy. I can't say what the company is, but I can say that about 100 highly paid highly skilled jobs will be lost. These jobs came with training.
I agree with you here and the government has every duty to protect workers from such abusive behaviour. Most people in Malta find themselves exploited by some employees at a very young age - and this is absolutely immoral.
Some workers, especially in construction, risk their lives for their boss but at the end of the week they recieve a so called 'wage' to buy just the neccesities, and their boss, the one who risks his money, is always finding enough money to buy what he wants, whenever he wants!
I agree that their are workers who are constantly in danger. I won't stop at construction workers though. It is not just manual workers - it extends to nurses, policeman, soldiers, doctors - all sorts of people unfortunately have their lives at risk. It is not their boss who puts their lives at risk - it is their job - and unfortunately all their jobs are necessary for the community to function. What we can hope for is an adequate wage and adequate legislation.
I know for a fact that up until a few years back some employers would provide some form of protective clothing, but this would not be used by employees. Nowadays the law has been enforced. I think there is a lot to be done when it comes to workers rights - but rather than punish the entrepreneur, I would take the option to empower the worker - through adequate wages, adequate knowledge of his rights, and adequate support.
