The electoral campaign from an image perspective

In a matter of image the MLP has made a huge progress in the last few years. The new administration that took over after the 2003 referendum and general election, changed the unattractive method that the MLP used to deliver their message to the people with, into a more attractive and modern way. If you only look at the general conferences of the MLP after the last four years, one could see a significant change. In this electoral campaign the MLP are staying on the same track that they used in the last four years, the way that public meetings are being held, the coach, the catchy song ‘the only way is up’ and the professional spots on the tv. These are all attractive things, but these attractive things all fade by few mistakes, like for example some of the journalists of One tv, and above all, with lack of charisma from the leader him self, something that the campaign strategists of MLP are aware of, and that is why they are emphasizing on the idea of a team. Opposite to this, the PN are using Lawrence Gonzi’s charisma and at the same time are hiding the old faces of PN ministers. The idea of ‘GonziPN’ even if at first it’s seemed that it doesn’t make sense, now everyone agrees that it’s convincing people. ‘Iva, flimkien kollox possibbli’, the title of the PN electoral campaign, could have been only ‘flimkien kollox possibbli’, but the PN strategists used the word ‘iva’, to remind the people about the success of five years ago. In a matter of public meetings the PN is using a formula that I like, that the leader would be interviewed by popular Maltese personalities instead of journalists. The idea of the teens behind Lawrence Gonzi in the mass meetings also is a good idea. In my opinion, I think that the two parties are head to head, let us wait and see…

From an image perspective I think the MLP has improved... drastically - and they're adopting a style similar to the British Labour party.

Il-leader jibqa problema...

However I've read through their policies for youths and sports and culture and there are virtually no points I disagree on... so putting the leader aside, I think the foundations are strong.

I see nothing wrong with Sant. It's more the people around him that bug me.

In any case, as a workers party Labour will never be convincing unless it starts embracing Radical Socialism. Down with the centrists!
